Now on to a personal favorite, an artist that’s wonderful for summer! Colin Caulfield, aka Young Man, is an artist to watch. Caulfield is a master of beautiful guitar melodies and songwriting, a former lit major who first garnered attention from Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox with his cover of the band’s own Rainwater Cassette Exchange. And seriously, his lit and English training really shines through in his songs; they’re intimate and talk about issues like love and growing up, that ring true with everyone. With his debut EP Boy, Caulfield will attempt to capture the struggles of coming of age and still craft memorable and personal songs.

And he’s just getting started! Caulfield has two full-length albums in the works, and this August he’s playing select dates with Dawes, Wye Oak, Local Natives and Lou Barlow. Go see him, but before you go, listen to a few of his wonderful, almost tropical sounding songs. I really love the hazy almost dreamlike sound of Five, as well as the catchy and melodic, yet still rockin’ Up So Fast.

And just for some added fun, check out his really awesome and light cover of David Bowie‘s Space Oddity.  After all of that awesome music, I can’t wait for Boy to be released!

Tour Dates:

8/04: Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland (w/ Dawes)
8/07: New York City Governor’s Island (w/ Local Natives)
8/09: Gabes Oasis, Iowa City (w/ Dawes)
8/21: The Basement, Nashville (w/ Lou Barlow and Wye Oak)
8/22: Off Broadway, St Louis (w/ Lou Barlow and Wye Oak)
