Bastard Song – The Wools (Free Download)
In a world of social media overload, sometimes we find ourselves gauging our love for a group or artist based on what they say rather than how they sound. With their Facebook, Twitter and other sites looking pretty bare-boned in their fledgling stages, The Wools give us the opportunity to enjoy them for what they really set forth to provide for us, their music!
These four NY indie rockers skillfully produced, engineered and mixed their own debut EP, which is so kindly available for free on their BandCamp page. “Bastard Song” and “Talk Talk Talk” have a moody, gentler Local Natives feel, with some gorgeous guitar tones that remind me of Cold War Kids. “City Daze” is clearly New York inspired, not only lyrically but also in how strong and steady it hits you, striking confidently with unique vocals and a guitar melody that holds sort of a classic Rolling Stones aesthetic.
It looks like The Wools have two dates scheduled during SXSW, and I look forward to not only catching a live gig of theirs as soon as possible, but seeing how they nurture and grow their web presence to match the impact of their awesome 3-track EP.
