The summer may be flying by, but Brooklyn band Woods (@woodist) has an anthem for the season. It’s called “Cali in a Cup”, and when you hear it, you’ll understand why. Carried by its breezy melody, this song is destined to be played, and enjoyed, on repeat throughout many carefree, sunny days. As half of a 7” to be released on August 14th, this is the first taste of the band’s new album, Bend Beyond, out on September 18th.
With this single, Woods maintains their rich instrumentation and alluring melodies, but their notorious hazy folk sound now has a keener focus. Jeremy Earl’s delicate falsetto vocals float over gentle guitar strumming and sparkling harmonica lines, and the simple, repetitive lyrics allow for pleasantly easy listening. Word on the street is that this new album is not only the band’s fullest instrumentally, but also their darkest and most intimate conceptually. Apparently, they’re easing listeners in with this burst of sunshine.
