William Matheny Lives All Our Worst Parties in ‘Living Half to Death’ [Premiere]

The first solo record from an indie hero can be a tough needle to thread, but when that artist is a songwriter as proven as William Matheny there’s no reason for worry. A long time member of Southeast Engine, Matheny has a long track record of layered. lyrically poignant songs and his recent solo record Strange Constellations continues the trend. Stand out track ‘Living Half to Death’ gets the music video treatment and somehow, it makes the song even more relatable. Showing the kind house party isolation that basically everyone has been through – it follows Matheny and his band as he wanders through the smoke filled haze. Of the video, he says:

“I think a lot of people spend their younger days feeling very lonely and insecure. I know that I did. Those sorts of emotions can manifest themselves in a number of ways and in my case, it all came to the surface in the form of self-destructive behavior and being that really annoying guy at parties who won’t shut up. We filmed this video with about an hours notice and I think directors Max Nolte and Brad Goodall did an excellent job of capturing my typical late teens/early twenties party-going experience. A lot of trying too hard and a lot of rubbing people the wrong way. Thanks to all of our friends who showed up and thanks to Ian for letting us use his house.”

Check out the video above and be sure to catch him on tour this Spring.
