Wild Child’s new track, “Break Bones,” is a song that you’ll soon find yourself belting out in the car on a lonely, dark drive to nowhere. Most of the album – aptly titled Fools – is due out on October 2 and was written almost entirely about breakups and heartaches.
This song is of the same classification, but instead of moving on, it’s about hanging on, even when you shouldn’t. “Break bones / we slam phones / scream and yell through the closed doors,” starts the first verse and we find ourselves with relatable memory-pains through the chorus: “Maybe you and I will never learn / I hope this fight just never ends.”
Sonically, it’s not at all depressing. The melodious piano chords give the tune a strong presence right off the first beat and the space before the bridge has us in an anticipatory state of mind, while the drums bring us right to the climactic chorus. The vocals are delicate and sweet and we’re left just feeling comforted that these feelings are universal.
