Well, to simply answer that question… Two Door Cinema Club (MySpace page here). ”What the fuck are you talking about?” you say. Well, here’s my logic. I see Phoenix as an indie band that was (way) successful at breaking into the mainstream, and did so from across the pond (ocean). I listen to Tourist History by Two Door Cinema Club, especially songs like Something Good Can Work, I Can Talk, and Come Back Home, and think to myself, “damn that would be perfect for a commercial” (think 1901 in the Cadillac commercial).
I’ve been listening to this album nonstop, and don’t see it as one of those “listen to nonstop for two weeks then put in the drawer” sort of albums. They’re extremely catchy, and the record’s full of songs that, just as Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, get stuck in my head for hours at a time. Take a chance and listen to the songs below, or just buy the album on iTunes. I’ve heard that, just like Phoenix, they’re an amazingly talented live band. Too bad I missed their NYC show earlier this month, but not to worry, I’m sure they’ll be back here again soon. Too bad they’ll pribably be playing at a place like Terminal 5 instead of Bell House next time around.
Keep an eye out for these talented Ireland-dwelling musicians, and bask in the glory of Undercover Martyn below.
