Ever wonder what the outcome would be of a match-up on the court featuring Of Montreal and the Black Lips? Well you might be able to find out this Saturday if you’re conveniently located in the Atlanta area.
Flaunting hometown pride, the Black Lips hope to win it all in the Converse Band of Ballers basketball tournament. They’ll be facing some stiff competition though, including rapper/producer Jermaine Dupri and rapper Jim Jones.
For their participation, each group is being granted $5,000. The boys of the Black Lips plan to donate their share to the Auditory Verbal Centre, Inc., an organization that supports the rehabilitation of deaf children. They’re hoping other participants will follow suit with their request and donate their share to the greater good.
As for their winning strategy, these boys plan to make “mostly half-court shots,” but “some full-court ones” too, according to bassist/singer Jared Swilley.
Jones is currently the raining champ of the tournament, and has a not-so-secret weapon on his team this year by the name of God Shammgod, an ex-Washington Wizard.
Let’s hope the Black Lips have a few tricks up their sleeves so they can beat the likes of Jones and God Shammgod (who would want to mess with a name like that?). Regardless, it should be quite an amusing day in Atlanta.
