The temperatures are cooling down, and the year is coming to a close. 2K10 has been a somewhat underwhelming year for new music, at least in relation to its recent predecessors. There is, however, still a quarter of a year to be and introduced to others that may lead to a promising 2011.
The Ghost of Rockschool – Belle and Sebastian (Pre-order)

As we take a look at what’s on tap for October, the optimism for great new music is still abundant. Boston-based alternative rockers, Guster, will release their 6th album and highlight the first Tuesday new music release of the month. Bruno Mars, Idlewild, Toby Keith, and Royal Baths will all release albums on the 5th of October.
The extravaganza of October will be the following Tuesday, October 12th, when an indie music lover’s dream becomes a reality. Sufjan Stevens will release a full-length album titled The Age of Adz, just weeks after he released an EP online. Antony And The Johnsons, Belle And Sebastian, Celtic Thunder, Less Than Jake, Badly Drawn Boy, The Foreign Exchange, and young up-and-comers from Cleveland, Cloud Nothings will all have albums available for purchase on the 12th.
The 19th brings us less in terms of quantity, but certainly just as much in quality, especially from classic artists. A series of Bob Dylan demos recorded in the early 60s will be released along with a new album from Elton John, in which he collaborated with country rocker, Leon Russell. Personally, the highlight of releases on the 19th will be the full length debut of Jesse Kivel’s (of Princeton fame) highly anticipated project, Kisses. Kings of Leon will also release Come Around Sundown on the third Tuesday of October.
Lastly, October 26th gives us new music from Kid Cudi and Taylor Swift on the mainstream front. Brooklyn-based Small Black will release New Chain and the lovely ladies of Warpaint (currently touring with The xx) will release The Fool to round out the month.
