Seems to Me – Life Size Maps Seems to Me – Life Size Maps (Free Download)
Hey everyone, this is Life Size Maps’ first entry on this new blog feature. We’re a NYC band that plays frantic and restless power pop with fast tempos, tight vocal harmonies, and strings. We are influenced by The Beach Boys, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, indie rock, classical, grunge, and 50’s pop. We started the band in 2008 as a 7 piece mini-orchestra but have since condensed into the 4 piece lineup of:
Mike McKeever – vocals/guitar
Robert Karpay – vocals/cello/synth
Will Ewing – vocals/drums
Doug Berns – bass
So far in summer 2010 we’ve been playing shows in Manhattan and Brooklyn and working on two new singles: Turn Around and Prom Rock.
Two weekends ago we played shows at The Delancey and at The Charleston for the L Magazine’s Northside Festival. The show at The Delancey had a great vibe. There was a lot of energy in the room and the sound at the venue was super clear.
Later that weekend, Northside Fest was a really great time. For four days, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the current home of Will and I, was turned into a crazy showcase of music, film, and art. Over 300 bands played and we went to a ton of showcases. Free Heineken, free pizza, and free music were involved. At our showcase on Sunday we played with some cool new bands:
Um was a visceral indie rock band with well thought out lyrics and great buildups:

Red Wire Black Wire was a tight and energetic band with wiry intertwining guitar and synth lines:

After the show, we rented a Zipcar to drive our equipment back to the practice space. However, realizing that we had a car in our possession, we decided on a whim to drive to Cape May, New Jersey. We started driving at around 2 am and got to the shoreline and 4:30. We chilled there ’til the sun came up, attempted to film spur of the moment music videos (foiled by the fact that I broke two guitar strings), and then drove back to NYC — but not before having an epic pancake breakfast at Uncle Bill’s. So good. All-in-all it was a packed but awesome weekend.
We’ll post another entry soon. If you haven’t heard our tunes yet, here are 2 songs from our recent EP, Seems to Me and Meet Me in the Shade
The rest of our FREE EP is up for download here:
