CMJ was quite the hectic affair last week. After filming four sessions on the first day, one of our audio recorders was stolen, resulting in an unexpected upgrade of our equipment and exposing my uncontrollable addiction to B&H. Once we met Alessi Laurent-Marke, also known as Alessi’s Ark, however, all worries seemed to vanish. We headed into Stuy Town in Manhattan, a secluded area that could very well be hours outside of the city for what turned out to be one of our most tranquil sessions yet. Alessi herself was an absolute pleasure to chat with. She told us stories of beekeepers, honeycomb houses and her hometown of London. The incredibly charming singer-songwriter then proceeded to play two songs off her new EP, Soul Proprietor, as well as a cover of Neva Dinova’s "A Man and His Dream."
