Glasgow’s synth-rock upstart Tongues has just dropped his newest offering, “Religion”. A gorgeously grungy pop pleasure, the track plays with tactile electronic tones that will raise the hairs on the back of your neck in the best way possible. In 2015, vocoded lyrics will rarely seem fresh and exciting, but “Religion” pulls it off by surrounding them with organic “whoa-ohs” and expert arpeggios. The indelible melody brings to mind alt-J run through a more mainstream filter, stored on an 8-bit hard drive. The track is the first single off Tongues’ EP, which will be released in September.
