The frontman of Snow Patrol, Gary Lightbody, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, Belle and Sebastian drummer Richard Colburn and Young Fresh Fellow/Minus Five/R.E.M. member Scott McCaughey have come together to form a band that may prove to be a force to be reckoned with — Tired Pony. Tired Pony is set to release their debut album The Place We Ran From July 12 via Fiction Records. The album is said to have a powerhouse line up of featured artists ranging from She & Him to Tom Smith of The Editors.
The band’s instrumental line-up is said to be interchangeable as well. According to an interview between Lightbody and BBC, each artist plays a variety of instruments, so nobody sticks to just one. The entire project is the brainchild of Lightbody, who came up with the foundations of the idea during Snow Patrol’s 2009 world tour. This isn’t the first time Lightbody has taken on a project such as this, he released two albums with the Reindeer Section, but this time he and his fellow artists are looking to prove that this is not just a one-time deal. Tired Pony is planning a show in London around the time of The Place We Ran From’s release.
Until the first single is released, you can check out a brief video of the band in the studio on the Tired Pony website.
