When I sat down to write this, I had been in New York approximately one hour and had slept only twelve over the previous five days. I was still shaking, maybe from fatigue, maybe from excitement, maybe from the hangover — or probably from a combination of the three. I had 800 photos to go through on my camera and about five pages of notes consisting of exclamation marks, “amazing” and “holy shit” over and over and over again. When I say that the weekend I spent at The Gorge in Washington was one of the best and most memorable I’ve had, I am not exaggerating. It was in every sense, the best festival experience I could have hoped for.
Apart from the incredible line-up, the vibe and organization of Sasquatch was extraordinary. With so many people in one place for four days, the possibilities of what could go wrong were endless, yet somehow, nothing did. People got into the festival with only minimal waits, sound issues were limited and didn’t cut into playing time and, perhaps most extraordinary of all, there weren’t a whole lot of douche bags. Sure, there were some, but by and large everyone was civil, kind and ready to have a fucking amazing weekend.
When asked to choose my favorite moments of Sasquatch 2011 I drew a blank — there were too many. Too many sets I loved, too many moments of pure glee. Instead I decided to give away a list of Hannah Angst certified Sasquatch Awards. Check back for those next tomorrow!
