“Sorry Hills” begins with a deliberate, slightly eerie feeling — otherworldly vocals lay reluctantly on top of emotive, discordant guitar picking, methodical percussion and horns that seems to bubble up from below the surface — all telltale signs that Australia’s The Cactus Channel & Sam Cromack, a once instrumental band, is venturing into new territory, testing the waters carefully and purposefully. As the song breaks into the chorus, though, the mood changes. Other instrumentation adds meat to the bones of “Sorry Hills,” making the tone feel more confident and upbeat — a declaration that their experiment is working and working very well. The remainder of the track follows suit, growing into a buoyant, soulful final chorus and comfortable conclusion. Enjoy the song above, and be on the lookout for an EP from The Cactus Channel & Sam Cromack.
