Austin band, The Black Angels are heading up to my fair city of New York and will be performing at an undisclosed location on September 7th. They have hinted that their gig will be in lower Manhattan at a venue that’s “not a rock club”. That leaves us with the New York Stock Exchange, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Staten Island ferry, or a jumbo-copter.
For those unfamiliar with The Black Angels, their psych blues rock is reminiscent of a rainy day spent walking through the back alleys of New York with switchblade in hand. This is not happy music. Songs like “Young Man Dead” and “MIssion District” are straight-up kicks to the face, with the passion to pick you right back up and take you along for the ride.
