The Universe Is Going To Catch You – The Antlers The Universe Is Going To Catch You – The Antlers (Buy)
The Antlers are receiving lots of praise for their 2009 LP, Hospice. NPR has called it “one of the most moving and beautiful works we’ve heard in a long, long time,” while Time Out New York called it “truly heart-wrenching.” The Antlers, which was originally founded by solo act Peter Silberman, added permanent drummer Michael Lerner and multi-instrumentalist Darby Cicci for Hospice. Many followers consider this to be their official debut album, yet as a solo act, Silberman had previously released two album we both prove as prime examples of musical growth.
Hospice was crafted from the idea of “caring for a terminal patient who is mentally abusive to you and you don’t have the right to argue with them because they are dying.” Hospice’s 10 songs chronicle the different emotional layers of an affliction like this from the epic peaks of Sylvia to the distortion and movements of Atrophy and Wake. The band also plans to take Hospice‘s 10 chapters (and the three previous releases) and record them in a grander and more studio-produced way in the future.
For now, you can catch The Antlers on tour with The National which started on June 4th and will continue through the beginning of August. They will also be making a stop at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago.
