Pamela Rodriguez, singer and creative force behind Brooklyn’s Telextile, will win you over with her voice. It’s strong and distinct, never allowing even a moment of boredom while listening. Her recently released 5 song EP, Reflector, is a collection of moody, atmospheric rock songs with blemishes of avant pop as well. The attention to detail with production techniques only helps to fully realize what I’m sure Ms. Rodriguez had in her mind when conceiving the arrangements. All the tracks clearly come from the same pen and never wane in character. Extra rhythmic, layered drum and percussion tracks immediately stick out, with echo chamber organs and guitars filling out the rest of the group’s sound.

“The Moment”, the first track off of the EP, is a short acappella that showcases Rodriguez’s vocal range and sensibility for lush harmonies.  Though it’s not the lineup she is currently playing with, the backing band on the record sounds fantastic. The recently solidified new roster of supporting players will hopefully continue to breathe new life into these songs. They will be testing them out on the road, playing a handful of shows at SXSW and a string of gigs afterward leading them back home up north.

“What if I” is the immediate standout of the pack, whereas “What if You” is a cool reimagining of the same tune. These two tracks show off the ability of Teletextile to use a song as a vessel for carrying out a certain feel rather than locking themselves into something generic and unalterable. Having released an initial set of songs under the same moniker, the writing for this project builds on that initial endeavor, and I would imagine that there won’t be too much longer before another batch of songs is released.

I think the melodies are very strong and also her lyrics that speak about women identity in the new Lima, politics and intimate poetry.
