In the ever-growing movement of faded out rock sounds, many bands have attempted to create their own ideal, unique summery sound that is consuming the indie rock sound.

Few have succeeded.

Here comes New Zealand-by-way-of-San Francisco band Tamaryn. Their minimalist approach to indie psychedelia is beyond anything we collective music listeners have heard before. The refreshing sound of The Waves is so powerful, it’s enough to calm a mother of newborn twins. Each track on the album has a defining characteristic to it that gives it a unique feeling. To compliment the eerily great sound, each track’s title is very complimentary to the feeling you get during the listen.

“Choirs of Winter” is one of the most vision-inducing tracks on the album. The simple strong structure allows the listener to get lost in a serene picture of an idyllic nature. “Mild Confusion” puts you in a trance-like haze as you get lost under the big umbrella of drowned out sound.

There may not be enough of a “direction” to give music purists enough of a warm, fuzzy feeling about what Tamaryn has accomplished on the album. With electronic music gaining popularity so fast, the envelope keeps being pushed to new levels and new heights.  The Waves seems to be one of those albums that just pushes the envelope a little more, and creates a unifying sound, compacted in to 9 fantastic tracks.
