The debut single from Los Angeles quartet Gypsum is a gorgeous one, full of chiming guitars and deceptively complex melodic invention. The band locks tight into an atmospheric groove for a flaw-free four minutes, leading the listener on a heavy harmonic journey. “Stay and you don’t stand a chance / So run,” pleads lead singer Sapphire Jewell over understated swells of indie rock instrumentation. Layered vocals and a tight rhythm section bring to mind the best of Warpaint and Deerhunter, making “Follow Me” is an impressive showing from a promising band. You can never have too many girl groups, especially one so instantly appealing.
