337 620x434 GET READY FOR AUGUSTINESS NEW LP OUT IN FEBRUARY [VIDEO]

Recording group Augustines has gone through a lot since 2009. After Pela broke up that year, members Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson joined up with Rob Allen to form the new band. Since then, the group has changed their name to We Are Augustines, released a breakthrough debut LP, changed their name back to Augustines, gone on a rigorous tour with Frightened Rabbits, made the big move from Brooklyn to Seattle, and are now getting set to release their sophomore self-titled album.  Their newly-released first single, “Cruel City”, is proof that all this work has paid off. With new Pacific Northwest influences mixed with the gruffness of their Brooklyn roots, this track shows a uniqueness and progression that definitely has us excited for their upcoming album. You can check out the single above, and be sure to catch their LP Augustines when it comes out February 4th.

bestofthebest BEST OF THE BEST FROM CMJ 2011

CMJ Music Marathon is, for some people, a year’s worth of music packed into one 5 day span.  The fest featured 1,000+ bands from across the world, playing venues in both Manhattan and Brooklyn.  For those that partook in the musical adventure, the week was filled with late nights, loud indie rock ‘n roll, and most likely, a lot of booze.  Our collective hangover has finally subsided, so we present you with our favorite bands of CMJ 2011. It’s totally impossible to hate Daytrotter. The recordings that come out of The Horseshack are raw, intimate, and uninhibited. Original illustrations are created for each session and the write-ups on the website are consistently brilliant. Plus, just like with all of our sessions, you get it all for [READ ON]

WE ARE AUGUSTINES BLEW MY MIND AT BOWERY BALLROOM

IMG 6685 530x353 WE ARE AUGUSTINES BLEW MY MIND AT BOWERY BALLROOM

This Wednesday night, I was lucky enough to see three bands at Bowery that I’ve been wanting to see for quite some time.  First up was Zach Williams and the Below (@zwilliamsbelow), who was certainly a shift away from what I’ve become accustomed to witnessing on the Bowery stage. With southern roots dripping from their pores, the Brooklyn-based [READ ON]
