Festival season is upon us, and it’s time for my favorite one of them all, Austin Psych Fest. It’s still a relative baby, only in it’s sixth year, but boasts a line-up that proves it’s here to stay. For the first time, the event is moving out of a traditional venue and into the great outdoors — Carson Creek Ranch to be exact. They now offer weekend-long camping, the perfect way to really soak up those psychedelic reverberations. Bands don’t start until the afternoon, giving you time to recover each morning before diving [READ ON]

Happy Halloween to you and you and you. I’m sitting here dressed as Ash Ketchum from Pokémon hoping that the snow storm we had on Saturday night (seriously?) wasn’t the beginning of winter for us here in New York City. It’s currently supposed to be chilly but nice, which is, in my opinion, the best weather for venturing out and seeing some live music.

From Feist and Battles, to The Drums and Pixies, we have some extraordinary artists visiting our city this week. See below for our suggested shows of the week! [READ ON]

primaheads1 PRIMAVERA SOUND 2011 FESTIVAL GUIDE

Hola from Spain!  I was lucky enough to make the trip over here to Barcelona for Primavera Sound, a music festival featuring some of my absolute favorite bands in the entire world.  I’ve put together an official guide to help those who are also in attendance navigate through the madness.  I haven’t mentioned every band playing, only [READ ON]

THE BLACK ANGELS

947 days ago by Eric Weiner

I had the pleasure of seeing Austin natives, The Black Angels, only a month ago (or so) when they played at the Ansche Chesed Synagogue in lower Manhattan.  The experience was a nothing like my high holiday experiences growing up, and more akin to a night at a halloween fun house.   The Black Angels play a unique blend of washed out, fuzzy rock and roll that was absolutely chilling in that particular setting.

As you can imagine, trying to figure out a location for our live session with Alex Maas and Co. was a difficult task.  It wasn’t appropriate for them to be singing near a bed of flowers, or on the lake, so we escaped to a stairwell in the East Village, hooked up the amps, and started filming.  Plug in your headphones and push play!

Special thanks to Melanie Steinway for the amazing art above.  For more of her work, click here.

‘Buzzsessions’ is a live session series made by The Wild Honey Pie.  With each new episode, we travel with a different band to a different part of New York City and record sometimes-intimate/sometimes-wild versions of two or three songs which are given away for free.

Austin band, The Black Angels are heading up to my fair city of New York and will be performing at an undisclosed location on September 7th.  They have hinted that their gig will be in lower Manhattan at a venue that’s “not a rock club”.  That leaves us with the New York Stock Exchange, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Staten Island ferry, or a jumbo-copter.
