GET ON BOARD WITH MOTHER FALCON [STREAM]

motherfalcon GET ON BOARD WITH MOTHER FALCON [STREAM]

With horns blaring, “Dirty Summer,” the new song by Austin’s Mother Falcon, starts off big. For nearly three and a half minutes, it never really settles down. Their huge sound can largely be attributed to the fact that they began as an after-school jam among a handful of high school orchestra students looking for a more creative outlet than reading sheet music. With anywhere from 15 to 20 people in the band, it’s no surprise that they have meshed a variety of influences — their sound is what you might expect if Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Ros, Beirut, and Arcade Fire all decided to make music [READ ON]

Sometimes, the most moving, meaningful art is produced in the aftermath of a significant situation, good or bad, and this is exactly how Slow Dakota’s Our Indian Boy came to exist. PJ Sauerteig, aka Slow Dakota, could never have guessed that his volunteer trip to India would go the way it did — the culture shock, extreme heat, and living conditions were overwhelming, causing him to return [READ ON]

SUFJAN STEVENS DEMO LEAKED [STREAM]

137 days ago by Eric Weiner

Image SUFJAN STEVENS DEMO LEAKED [STREAM]

Back in 2010, our favorite psych folk prodigy Sufjan Stevens created a film called The BQE for which he also (obviously) composed the score.  While that album has been out for quite some time, it wasn’t until today that the demo for this unreleased track which failed to make it on the album due to a legal dispute was leaked and spread like wildfire on the web.  While it definitely possesses attributes of his older material, “Which One Are You?” is more in line with the musical styles found on his most recent album Age of Ads (the end of the song draws a lot of sounds from “Impossible Soul”).  Stream “Which One Are You?” below.

 DECEMBER IS PEACE

Art by Terra Schneider & Maddie Rosemurgy

Music is inherently and intrinsically weaved into my life. Virtually everything I do, day in and day out, has a meticulously-chosen soundtrack. My guess, dear reader, is that we share this quality. For many years, I chose my music based on a single facet, be it lyrics, vocals, intricacy, simplicity, or whatever [READ ON]

PRINCESS MUSIC FIT FOR ROYALTY [STREAM]

I tend to get frustrated when I hear people talking about how “they just don’t make music like they used to.” Whether these people are referring to the days of Simon & Garfunkel or those of Bach, I’m really not sure, but something [READ ON]
