Not even a perpetual torrent of rain could extinguish the good vibes at the inaugural Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta over the weekend. The first day of the two-day festival (Saturday) saw crowds build to around 8,000 by the end of the long, messy day, and by Sunday afternoon, the festival sold out. The 28 bands that played the festival were greeted by over 14,000 keyed up fans all within the confines of the shiny (not anymore), new Historic Old Fourth Ward Park and the adjoining Masquerade [READ ON]

The acts that performed at Glasslands Gallery last Thursday meshed perfectly with the new cylinder installation, syncing each beat and intricate guitar riff with a corresponding light shift. This weekend marks the inaugural run for Atlanta’s brand new Shaky Knees Festival, and I’m stoked to be there to experience it! The two day festival will be held in a newly completed park next to a prominent Atlanta music venue, The Masquerade. The schedule and lineup is a bit light compared to other festival heavy-hitters (Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Hangout), but for a first year festival, the lineup is pretty amazing. The schedule is 12-11 Saturday, May 4, and 12-10 Sunday, May 5. Nearly every act scheduled [READ ON]

This week is going to be a doozie!  Though the past few weeks have also been filled with memorable shows, it’s been a while since I’ve seen quite this many of my favorite bands in town all at once.  Bon Iver (playing 4 nights at Radio City Music Hall), Wye Oak, Field Mouse, Oberhofer, EfterklangDr. Dog (with Kishi Bashi), Austra, The Echo Friendly, the [READ ON]

Oberhofer, Bleeding Rainbow, and Heavenly Beat lit up the stage last Wednesday at Brooklyn Bowl, helping wrap up a sumer filled with amazing gigs at our favorite BK venue. Heavenly Beat (@heavenlybeatny) opened with some highly digestible, dance-centric loops and some soft, almost tentative, falsetto overdubbed vocals. They were followed by the aptly-named Bleeding Rainbow (@rainbowbleeding), whose My Bloody Valentine-esque wall of sound, opaque coifure, and gauche movements ran endearingly at odds with their technical [READ ON]

21 years after its inception, Lollapalooza is a festival that does almost everything right. For quite a while, it’s been in a very convenient area and had excellent line-ups, even compared with competing fests such as Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Outside Lands. When done right, a great festival includes bands for everyone, and Lollapalooza [READ ON]
