WHP AlbumsSoFar LR TOP 15 ALBUMS OF 2012 (SO FAR)

2012 is quickly flying by, and with it, we’ve received some truly amazing albums. From the debut solo record by Jack White (weird right?) and 151a from Kishi Bashi to the return of The Shins and Fiona Apple, this year has been packed with wildly amazing music. Below, we give you our top 15 album of 2012 (so far). Of course, with today’s release by Dirty Projectors and the recent Hot Chip album, this might barely reflect our final [READ ON]

Throughout the course of a year, I will sit down with countless records, all of which vary in shape, size, style and quality. Some of these I’ll enjoy, some of them I won’t, some will take a number of listens before I click with the material and some, a select few, will win me over instantaneously. The debut record from Secretly Canadian’s latest export, EXITMUSIC (@weareexitmusic), fits firmly and definitively in this last position. Passage was a record that, upon first listen, grabbed my heart and never let go.

At the core of both the group and the album is husband and wife team Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church, whose combination of guitar and vocals act as the primary engine for this vehicle. There’s a solid, strong and certified [READ ON]

The show that EXITMUSIC (@weareexitmusic) and School of Seven Bells (@sviib) played on Saturday at (le) poisson rouge wasn’t the type that you dance or mouth lyrics to — their performances were the kind that transfix and transport entire packed underbellies of Bleecker street. EXITMUSIC’s relentless, candid vocals and layered instrumentation, conjuring [READ ON]

Happy Halloween to you and you and you. I’m sitting here dressed as Ash Ketchum from Pokémon hoping that the snow storm we had on Saturday night (seriously?) wasn’t the beginning of winter for us here in New York City. It’s currently supposed to be chilly but nice, which is, in my opinion, the best weather for venturing out and seeing some live music.

From Feist and Battles, to The Drums and Pixies, we have some extraordinary artists visiting our city this week. See below for our suggested shows of the week! [READ ON]

Another week here in New York City means another week of live music that will blow your mind.  Though James Blake, Yacht, and Twin Shadow are in town, it’s Brooklyn-by-way-of Rhode Island band Fang Island that snagged our #1 concert of the week spot.  Why you ask?  These dudes are outrageous performers who know how to have a good time. They’re also playing one of my favorite venues, Glasslands Gallery.  It’s a small place filled with strange taxidermy, mythological creatures [READ ON]
