DEERHUNTER, SAVAGES, WAY YES

This release week finds Deerhunter trading in their atmospheric pop for straight up rock and roll, but nobody’s going to mind because it’s still the same edgy, dark, brilliant Deerhunter underneath all the fuzz and crackle. Another veteran changing it up is none other than Patty Griffin, whose new record, American Kid, is her very first solely Americana effort. Savages is finally releasing their debut, which will knock you on your ass and then some with its no-nonsense, post-punk intensity. Lo-fi folk singer-songwriter, Gambles, will settle your stomach a bit after all the ruckus [READ ON]

Festival season is upon us, and it’s time for my favorite one of them all, Austin Psych Fest. It’s still a relative baby, only in it’s sixth year, but boasts a line-up that proves it’s here to stay. For the first time, the event is moving out of a traditional venue and into the great outdoors — Carson Creek Ranch to be exact. They now offer weekend-long camping, the perfect way to really soak up those psychedelic reverberations. Bands don’t start until the afternoon, giving you time to recover each morning before diving [READ ON]

Atlas Sound is the solo-project for Bradford Cox, the singer for critically acclaimed band Deerhunter. Along with actively engaging the indie scene through his blog, he has a reputation for being one of the most prolific songwriters in the genre. Needless to say, when a friend offered me a ticket to see him at the very unique venue of St. Cecilia’s Cathedral [READ ON]

Hola from Spain!  I was lucky enough to make the trip over here to Barcelona for Primavera Sound, a music festival featuring some of my absolute favorite bands in the entire world.  I’ve put together an official guide to help those who are also in attendance navigate through the madness.  I haven’t mentioned every band playing, only [READ ON]

DEERHUNTER > ATLAS SOUND

982 days ago by Johnny O'Riordan

In honor of Deerhunter‘s new release Halycon Digest (swoon) and Bradford Cox’s selfless contribution to my music collection, I’m serving up a heaping plate of food for thought. Deerhunter or Atlas Sound? Although both awesome, only one has what it takes to be prom queen. For me, Deerhunter owns the crown and here are three key reasons why. [READ ON]

DEERHUNTER HALCYON DIGEST DEERHUNTERS HALCYON DIGEST

Rarely does an album make you react so strongly that you’re hard pressed to find a starting point in describing it. Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter is such an album. The native Georgians have delivered a near-revolutionary record that spirals generations of rock-n-roll, meshing them into one clear vision. [READ ON]
