With Interpol here, Foo Fighters there, and unknown indie bands literally everywhere, Austin, Texas, becomes a music industry mecca for a week in March for the South by Southwest Music Festival.
And while 97% of the artists I adore temporarily migrate to the sunny south, I’m left up north in the cold schizophrenic weather of New York City feeling “bandless”. But the reality is, this city always has anything to offer. So, I could mourn the temporary decrease of bands playing in NYC during SXSW week, or I can still look forward to the bands that are playing here instead.
Here are some NYC shows that will help ease the pain of not participating in SXSW festivities.

This by no means will completely fill that SXSW void. It could, however, help deal with the hundreds of tweets and status updates about how epic SXSW 2011 is and how Kanye West stage crashed Maps & Atlases’ show the night before.
For those of you who are partaking in the overwhelming number of events SXSW has to offer, I’m sure you already RSVP’d to the Eventbrite Party curated by The Wild Honey Pie (here). Why? Because with performances from Superhumanoids, ARMS, Jonquil, The Jezabels, Jukebox The Ghost, and a bunch of other amazing bands for free, it’d be ridiculous not to make this party mandatory.
