Suckers (@sssuckersss), with the help of Acrylics, Turn To Crime, and Papertwin, celebrated the release of their latest album, Candy Salad (released on Frenchkiss Records), by filling out both stories of Glasslands on Tuesday. This new album seems to have brought with it a new sound — more polished and driving, but still rich with the nuanced instrumentation that sets them apart.
Papertwin (@papertwin) played a characteristically tight, energetic set that brought out the dancers en masse. Derek Stanton, aka Turn To Crime (@turntocrime), followed them with a truly unique, near-tactile wall of sound that included projected Rorschach blots. Acrylics (@acrylicslife), who played third, gracefully overcame technical setbacks to play a solid set of backwards-looking, warbling melodic R&R. Definitely not a bad night.
