Houstatlantavegas (Drake Cover) – Sonnymoon Houstatlantavegas (Drake Cover) – Sonnymoon

Berklee students Anna Wise and Dane Orr, aka Sonnymoon, have been on quite the tear since the debut of their album Golden Age, available above. They made the trip down to Austin in March, and recently signed to Plug Research.  The duo has already mastered the difficult task of covering Drake’s “Houstatlantavegas”, which gives me high hopes for the hip pop experimental band.

The members of Sonnymoon are jazz musicians whose use of instruments, harmonies, and a production sampler is refreshingly new. When I heard their Drake cover, I fell in love. Seriously. The  band has created something so wonderful it’s really hard to describe; mesmerizing, melancholy and so… right.

After a further listen at the tracks on Golden Age as well as the tracks on the band’s MySpace, I’ve decided they’re basically making their own brand of music.  Like someone breakdancing on the moon. One of my other favorite tracks is “Blast Off”, featuring a sweet yet bizzare lead vocal from Wise.

Though it’s hard to describe their music, Sonnymoon is eccentric, interesting, and fun. Check out Golden Age, as well as the new tracks on their MySpace.

Also, for your enjoyment, a video created by their friend Lauren Santorio of their song, “Run Away”.
