I was recently out in Seattle after my trip to Sasquatch. I spend some time with my friends and, including my time at Sasquatch, had some of the most soothing and enjoying times in my life. Why would I write an article about this? It’s more about the concept of home, who it involves, and the dynamic that music adds to my life.
I’m currently living in New York for the first time in 6 years. As great as that sounds, I can’t help but to feel homesick for the first time in a long time. After spending extensive amounts of time in London, Colorado, and now New York, I feel as if the phrase, “home is where the heart is” just doesn’t make sense. If that were true, my home would be located throughout this nation and across the pond in London.
That’s where the beauty of music comes into play. I double click a song in iTunes and close my eyes. For every song, I (just as you) have a different distinct memory of either a place or a certain person. Because of this, I can find the concept of home in the music I listen to. There’s no other way to transport myself to the various reaches of the world other than to listen to the music that reminds me of the people I care about the most. Below are a few different songs that remind me of different places in the world. What songs do you associate with the people you love and places you’ve been?
