My love affair with Maine continues with Eliot, Maine duo The Farthest Forests.  A few months ago, Anne Marple and Peter Squires got together and decided to write and record an album in only 28 days.  Their debut LP, Strange Wool, which hits virtual shelves on May 31, is the result.

Using only GarageBand and the internal mic on Squires’ MacBook, these two have captured exactly what makes them so great, in exactly the right way.  Marple’s raw story-telling ability shines throughout Strange Wools.  With “rocksnsticksntreesnbones”, the band’s percussive landscape of claps and stomps sets the stage for a great acoustic guitar riff from Squires and utterly sincere vocals from Marple.  This and “The Salt on the Road” make it evident that 28 days was all that was needed.

The entire LP is fantastic, a collection of 10 songs that are precise, clean, and well-structured at all the right places yet flawed in the most perfect way.  Download it on BandCamp for $5, or simply stream it below.
