This week was hectic and a lot of fun. On Tuesday night we played at Bruar Falls in Williamsburg. It was a LOUD show filled with high energy.
The Chocolate Jesus sounded great. They played rock and roll tinged with psychedelia. Live, the amped-up three part vocal harmonies blended well with the raw backbone of the rhythm section:

Snow White, hailing from Worcester, MA, had a really cool, hazy vibe with tremolo guitars and falsetto vocals. Their sound had a vintage, sun-bleached element that was driven home by the spacious quality of their songs.
After the show, we ended the night at Union Pool, which included a crucial meal at the taco truck.
On Thursday, we got pulled last minute onto a show at Bowery Electric. The stage setup was a perfect size and the lighting (mostly blue with a bit of red) added a cool mood to the intimate venue.
The Twees, who organized the show, delivered a set that managed to be both intense and catchy. The bass and the drums were locked in, allowing the guitars to weave in different textures that thickened out the group’s sound:

We’re looking forward to playing with them again on July 29th at the Lit Lounge.
On Friday afternoon, we went into the studio to finish up mixing our 2 new tracks, Turn Around and Prom Rock, that are coming out for free next week. In this last session, we were experimenting, trying to find the perfect synth lead, bass bump, and guitar chime. Chris, our engineer/producer helped us push the songs to the next level with his mixes. The songs will be up on online soon, and we’ll put links up on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
This week we’ve been working on learning some new tunes, one of which has a dark grungy vibe, with stark verses, a chorus that releases the bottled-up energy, and bridge with overlapping vocals that eventually merge into one part. Another one has a sort of Beach Boys meets early Weezer style, with a simple unison chorus of the words “I don’t need it” and a bittersweet guitar solo in the bridge. We’ve been setting up more shows for July and August and are pumped to add some new material to our set.
More show dates will be up soon.

Mike
