Brooklyn’s Shinobi Ninja, has just released their new mixtape, Blunts and Nunchucks. Shinobi Ninja, which has a different, wild rock,/punk/hip-hop sound, are sweeping the country; after playing at SXSW, they have toured in Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Chicago. The band has almost 20,000 followers on MySpace, and uses admirable viral marketing techniques:
- Hoards of stickers pasted on NYC subway poles and telephone poles
- A street team application in which allows you to accumulate points to redeem Shinobi Ninja merch/tickets
- A few iPhone apps including one in which their album immediately downloads on your iPhone for free if you see them live
The band has a steadily growing fan base, and has performed raucous, energetic live shows at NYC venues such as The Mercury Lounge, The Studio at Webster Hall, and Santos’ Party House. To hear more from the band (and to listen to my favorite song, Brooklyn to Babylon), go to www.myspace.com/shinobininjamusic. To download the mixtape, click here. Enter your email, and voila! The album will be in your inbox in no time. You’re welcome.
