Baby You – A B & The Sea (Free Download / Buy)
I have no doubt that when Wisconsin natives A B & The Sea (@abandthesea) made the trek over to San Francisco to jumpstart their career, California greeted them with open arms. These days, the guys are soaking up the sun and harnessing it to create quintessential surf pop, garnering attention with their brand new EP Run Run Run.
Their sound has a retro resemblance to iconic Californians The Beach Boys, most noticeably in their melodies and completely airtight harmonies! Their bouncy lovesick ditties, though, also have the more modern fun factor of Miniature Tigers. Bridging the gap with their old and new flair, you can get a unique feel for their musical personality with their own special take on Katy Perry’s summer smash “California Gurls.”
While this track, and those off their EP such as “Take It Easy”, “Baby You”, and “Don’t Leave Me Now”, aren’t overly intricate in their instrumental arrangements, the simplicity of the music and calming quality of the vocals are actually their main attraction. I find I can’t listen to these tracks without a feeling of relaxation washing over me.
It’s so refreshing to see Run Run Run highlighted as “What’s Hot” on iTunes, letting the world know that old school approaches are still as awesome as they were in their hay day, particularly when a group like A B & The Sea manages to breathe exciting new life into them…all hope is not lost!
