Despite my preconceived notion that Seattle’s rainy climate breeds depression amongst it’s inhabitants, a trio of natives known as Seapony (@seaponyband) makes me feel as warm and dazzling as the noonday sun.
If CULTS and Camera Obscura joined forces for killer 60’s beach party, everyone would be playing volleyball and splashing in the surf to the bright and clean retro pop of Seapony. “With You,” “I Really Do” and “Go Away” shine with wavy electric reverb and twist-and-shout clapping beats. There is a twinge of forelorn lovesickness in the echoing female vocals, but they are joyfully irresistible nonetheless!
These three gems make up their self-titled EP, and are available for streaming on their BandCamp page. While you’re there you can also hear three more awesome tracks featured on their Dreaming 7” that impressively sold out its first pressing!
I just have one serious question…is it summer yet?! Seapony is already number one on my windows-down playlist, and with their debut LP slated for “either May or June”, it’s only a matter of time until my dreams come come to fruition.
