A few weeks ago, I was walking by Sycamore Bar & Flower Shop in Brooklyn with my friends and honey pies Dan Molad and Jess Wolfe.  A poster hung on the window that read ‘Sea of Bees’.  Though I didn’t think much of it at the time, I went home and listened to the Sea of Bees music I already had in my iTunes.  Within seconds of hearing the seductive, paralyzing vocals of Julie Ann Bee and her song “Skinnybone”, I had it in my mind that we had to record with her and her musical ensemble.

Coincidentally, only one week later, her team got in touch with me about having us attend that same Sycamore show I saw advertised on the venue’s window.  Jess and Dan met me at the flower show turned venue for what turned out to be a near-religious experience.  I described the entire thing in this article.  It was one of the best shows I’ve been to in my life, with Sea of Bees delivering a set of raw emotions that tore right into my being.  It sounds a bit corny, but it’s truly how I felt.

After the show, we approached Julie, better known as Jules, who couldn’t have been a more welcoming individual.  I got right to the point and told her about what we do, writing about, filming and recording music with our favorite musicians, to which she replied something along of the lines of, “I love you guys!  You filmed with my friend Jordan Dally!”  From there, we set up the following day’s shoot during which we welcomed Jules and company into Jess and Danny’s home to record alternate version of two songs from her debut full-length, Songs for the Ravens, as well as an unreleased track, “Woods”.  This was a beautiful experience for me and something I’ll never forget.  Thank you to Sea of Bees, Nathan, Jess, and Danny for making this a reality.
