I don’t really know how I feel about masked bands.  Sometimes it comes off mysterious and intriguing (Miike Snow), while other times it’s just annoying and gimmicky.  The former is the case for Canadian rockers We Are The City, who pull it off well with their creepy Scarecrow-esque, seen on their album cover and in a video series made in conjunction with their new album High School.  The video series is still in the process of being released and was made by Amazing Factory Productions Inc.  It’s pretty well done stuff.

The music itself doesn’t actually need the added support of costumes; their dramatic instrumentals, quivering vocals, and catchy melodies are constantly evolving and taking shape in the form of multi-genre pop songs.  Standout tracks, in my opinion, are “1987″, “Dark/Warm Air”, and “Get Happy”.  ”1987″ is the creepiest of the bunch as a collection of seemingly unconnected stories that took place that year.  It all works very well with irregular percussion and elegant strings, and is very much worth the $6 price tag.  Buy the album here or stream the album above.
