Shuffle Through The Wild Honey Pie

The following article was written by Noah Shomburg of The Foot.:

Set off today! Woke up around 6am to load up the U-Haul trailer and picked up Ben Conley. Drove about 10 hours to Kansas City. We had to drive suuuuuper slow (65mph max self-imposed limit) because of the trailer we have hitched to Noah’s Mercedes. Kind of funny that we’re driving a Mercedes ML350 across the country for tour. May be hard to get paid for the shows because the venues will think we don’t need the money. Unfortunately, we really do. Especially as expensive as gas is and as poor as we are. On the bright side, we have a very roomy car and enjoy all of the benefits of precision German engineering. We stayed at Ben’s house in Leawood Kansas, about 45 minutes from Czar Bar, where we were playing that night.

benz ml350 OUR FIRST POST!

We arrived a little late and Ben’s mom made us to-go tupperwares of a delicious healthy dinner she had prepared for us. The venue was real dope. Long and skinny with hip low lights and lots of tight jeans on both the girls, guys, and bands playing. First time unloading the trailer and setting up was an event. Kind of insane to see how much gear we have when it’s all splayed out at once in front of the stage. The other bands got there and seemed a bit unnerved that the opening band for the night was going to such great lengths in terms of gear/lights/banner. They were all real cool. The Cherry Tree Parade, Life in Jersey, The Noise FM. Hope we do something with one or all of them again. Scarfed Ben’s mom’s dinner at the venue (Jeff asked permission first of course) and quickly set up. First show with the new light setup.

Still messing around with configurations for that to optimize its efficiency and power! The show went well, about 75 people there during our set and sold a few CDs to some nice brand new friends. After breaking everything down and packing up Jeff and I went on a wild goose chase for somewhere that could sell us a lock for our trailer. We ultimately settled on a 24-hour Wal-Mart that was about 11 miles away from the venue, leaving Noah to cover the merch table. By the time we made it back the other bands had finished up, so we finished packing, and headed back to Ben’s house to get some much-needed rest. Personally, I slept in what appeared to be a young girl’s room, two single beds covered with stuffed monkeys and giraffes, with fuzzy purple blankets. It also had cool posters on the wall saying sassy things like “girls rule!” and “I’m not bossy, I just have the best ideas!” Girl power! Night 1 down, 10 to go. Woooooooooo. Night
