Bermuda Triangles – Six Gallery Bermuda Triangles – Six Gallery

Originally a four-piece instrumental act, Six Gallery has swapped drummers, added a vocalist, and signed onto Superball Music to re-release their debut album Breakthroughs in Modern Art. This post-rock quintet out of Colombus, Ohio definitely brings something new to the table.

With what I first felt like intrusive lyrics from a whiny voice, vocalist Daniel Francis holds his own when singing for a band that honestly doesn’t need a singer. Far from being a hindrance, the new vocalist instead helps give direction over Will Vokac’s and Ben Schreiber’s meticulous finger-tapping madness, building up to several crescendos and powerful cries throughout their songs.

Six Gallery makes sure to stick true to its roots, somehow blending its math rock efficiency to Francis’s lyrics, which could easily be set to the tune of some crappy emo band but creates its own unique power over the airy slides, taps, and explosions lent from the rest of the band, which never hold back for the vocals yet never overpower them either. The entire band works in a symmetry that others can only hope of attaining.

Also, they have a secret song! Showcasing an acoustic song still plagued with on-the-dot rhythm and angular melodies on their last track Smile Like A Switch, Six Gallery is a band full of surprises. They’ll be finishing up their US tour with a show ending in their hometown before making the rounds in Europe, so check the dates after the break!
