The staff at Mercury Lounge always seems to have a large object stuck in their ass. I don’t know what it is with the peeps over there, but you bring a video camera remotely close, and they’ll smell you from a mile away. Just last week, the Wall Street Journal was there to do some filming and the lady kicked them out, eventually kicking them not only to their curb, but a curb on the next block. No one is allowed to film the inside or outside of Mercury I guess. No one except for me with my charming smile that is.
On hand to film with Brooklyn band, BRAHMS, who are currently working on a full-length, I was treated to a private performance which included half of their EP. Basking in the glow of their ominous red light with a radio-ready Casiotone serving as an amp, Eric, Cale, and Drew of BRAHMS played “Brought It Out” and “Subtext is Deadly” in what was one of my absolute favorite sessions yet.
If you live in the Northeast, you can check BRAHMS out at Rockefeller Center with Bear Hands and Savoir Adore on September 10th, Pianos with ARMS on September 11th, or Johnny Brenda’s with Sun Airway and Golden Ages on November 4th in Philly.

‘Buzzsessions’ is a live session series made by The Wild Honey Pie. With each new episode, we travel with a different band to a different part of New York City and record sometimes-intimate/sometimes-wild versions of two or three songs which are given away for free.
