Okey Dokey, which is easily one of our favorite band names in a long while, bring a level of whimsy and sweetness to their lo-fi debut record Love You, Mean It that is sorely needed these days. Written in a cabin outside Nashville, Aaron Martin and The Weeks‘ guitarist Johny Fisher created something that sparkles and twinkles with psychedelic soul. The record starts out with a bang and keeps going, dipping into swirling sonics while maintaining a Motown-esq hook simplicity. It’s the kind of record that you can put on time and time again and still find little things to love about it – the kind of record that’s easily going to become a stand-by. Of the record the band says, somewhat obtusely, “We are poor, misplaced, young boys and girls making records in bedrooms across America. This is our first collective voicemail.”
Check out the stream of Love You, Mean It above and be sure to grab it when it comes out on 1/27. If you happen to be in Nashville or at SXSW this year be sure to catch what’s sure to be an equally charming live show.
