Hailing from Brooklyn, via Tacoma, Oberhofer is the brainchild of Brad Oberhofer, a young man with an evident, insatiable hunger for all things wacky and fun. He writes, plays and records all of his music, while live, performs with a full band. The sheer fact that he is only 19 years young and has conjured a style that is delightfully pop-y, yet, clearly his own is a thing worth noting.

For someone that is just barely leaving the bloody claws of adolescence only to find himself entering the salivating mouth of showbiz, Oberhofer seems to be balanced and firmly grounded. Often, his lyricism gives us a glimpse of his psyche, which is, needless to say, far more mature than most 19-year-olds, let alone much older crowds. In his single Awy Frm U, he dives into the awful aura surrounding breakups, a department that is prone to whiny verses and shitty, sentimental choruses about how the other person sucks, however, demonstrating who the ‘bigger man’ is, Oberhofer offers the solution of learning from his mistakes and hopes to do better with whoever he may slay next.

As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, the recent, successful, craze over the DIY model that many artists are using to ascend to the top of our “must-listen-to” lists is the same one Oberhofer uses. Oberhofer distributes his own music, via sending him an e-mail requesting whatever his most recent production may be, consequently, establishing a following that is both seemingly consistent and loyal. Most recently, he’s sent out a three track EP that is yet another staple to his already impressive tracklist. Claiming to be “Coincidence Pop”, it won’t be any coincidence that you’ll find yourself bobbing to the three tunes, which are filled with great melodies and drum beats that’ll have your ass sweaty, in a good good of course. Keep your eyes peeled for this guy, again, he’s only nineteen and if the gods don’t piss on his parade he’s bound for a promising career.
