Evolving from the sisterly duo group formed in 2004, Meg & Dia has become a five-piece ensemble that independently released their It’s Always Stormy in Tillamook EP after being dropped from Warner Bros. Records earlier in the summer.

Founding members Meg and Dia Frampton set the foundation for the rambunctious indie pop sound with their breathy and strong vocals, both of which sound like the beautifully mysterious voice of Metric’s Emily Haines. Additions Nicholas Price, Jonathan Snyder and Carlo Gimenez have helped round out and build up the sound from Meg & Dia’s primarily acoustic roots.

“My Ugly Mouth” is a story of uncertainty and saying goodbye within a bopping, lighthearted tune.  This subtly woven theme leads into the rest of the album’s more emotional pop. Tracks like “Less of Me,” “Don’t Be Careful,” and “The One” are infused with angst-laden riffs and continuously soulful lyrics. For young ladies in their early twenties, they spin quite a musical tale of love and loss, which we all can delve into and relate. Their many years on the road have clearly nurtured their solid singing and songwriting abilities, and this EP offers a breadth of deep feelings inside a nice little seven-song collection.

Look for these lovely siblings and their accompanying bandmates at a show near you, as they’ll be taking their newfound independence around the US for the remainder of the year!
