You know how there are just some songs that send you back to a certain specific moment in your life? Well the The DoDo’s have a many spots on my imaginary freshman year of college mixtape. The Season in particular happens to be one of my favorite folky songs EVER up their with Grizzly Bear’s The Knife and Fleet Foxes’s White Winter Hymnal. So when those first few finger plucked notes of this psy-folksy ballad start to play PLUS a fade in on a gorgeous low angle shot of this guy longboarding across a bridge, I was hooked.
For a sunny lazy saturday afternoon like today, this video is a nice combination of a wonderfully relaxing audio and visual odyssey. I know Spike Jonze pretty much confirmed that skateboarding can look cinematic, beautiful, dance-like, and even epic, but it’s nice to be reminded with the added benefit of the video being accompanied by one of my favorite songs. The soft and gentle fingerplucking fits nicely with the visual of longboarders weaving through passerbys and along boardwalks. I think my favorite part of the is how it doesn’t float of into a whimsical lalaland and I think it’s because of that coolass ewe drumming which successfully diversifies the sound. The drumming grounds the otherwise floaty vocals and serene finger plucking to a natural and consistent beat. Basically, this song plus this video has made my day tens time better because for six minutes, I got to drift into my latest fantasy of moving to California and marrying a proskater, or surfer, you know whomever comes first.
