Though you may just now be hearing of Luna is Honey, the pop/rock/electronica/shoegazers out of Los Angeles band have actually been a burgeoning presence in the LA music scene since 2006. The members played together in different bands since their teenage years (which were no doubt filled with music by the Cure, as is reflected in their oft hazy and dreamlike melodies).
Guitarist and lead vocalist Josh Crampton, drummer Amorn Bholsangngam, master of beats Jay Francisco, keyboardist Elijah Crampton, and bassist Tyler Binkley have come together on their 3rd album Copy Cats to create a sound that is at once very mesmerizing and dreamy but also is tinged with punk. My favorite song is the catchy Who Wouldn’t, which is the very first song I heard by them. After starting there, I also checked out songs from their first two albums, Raptor Red and Rhino Sinners which were originally released on CD-R and cassette. I really loved Raptor Red and I Would Die for You, but Still Killing Kreeps had a really weird yet amazing hip hop and punk quality to it. I really encourage everyone to check this band out; I am crossing my fingers that I can see this wonderfully creative band live in the next few months!
