Lucy Dacus Shines with Strong Vocals and Lyricism [Stream]

With only one recently released album, comparisons to Courtney Barnett and Sharon Van Etten are already swirling around Richmond based singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus. She definitely has the intelligent lyrics and strong throaty vocals that can compete with the pool of female vocalists and songwriters who have blessed our airwaves as of late. Her track, “Strange Torpedo”, off the album, discusses the frustrating subject of having to watch a friend make the same poor choices over and over again. “You got a dollar in your pocket / You got a pebble in your sock and / you’ve got a mind of gold you keep secret / I gotta hope that one day you’ll use it.” Listen above, and check her out on tour if you can.
