LOCAL NATIVES AT GOV ISLAND

Governor’s Island has distinguished itself as one of New York’s premier summer venues.  It’s one of my new favorites, but mostly due to the types of acts they’ve been able to play host to.  Local Natives, Alberta Cross, Portugal. The Man, She & Him, Dr. Dog, Grizzly Bear, Neon Indian, and more have all hit/will be hitting this glorious stage.

Now to last Saturday’s show: Local Natives with special guests Young Man and We Barbarians.  Having already partaken in the experience know as a Local Natives gig, I knew what was coming.  Hard hitting indie folk rock with three part harmonies and both traditional and cocktail drum kits. Though they’ve only released one album, their set was immense, a flawless portrayal of the beauty found in their album.  My personal favorite song, Airplanes was played so well I wish they had recorded the set and released a live DVD.  This is the sort of band I wish had opened up for Arcade Fire at MSG.  No offense Spoon.
