Perpetually waxing and waning, Atlanta-based Little Tybee (@littletybee) consists of five or more members at a time, all contributing their unique qualities and melding their sound together perfectly. Referred to as “a mini-orchestra” by ASCAP’s Lavinia Jones Wright, I couldn’t have said it better.

In general placing them into a genre is a trying task. A little folky, a little poppy, and definitely eclectic, they manage to blend a wide variety of sounds together with ease. Regardless of what you decide to call their sound, it’s obvious that this is an ultra-talented group with plenty of passion and drive. Like an exotic Fleet Foxes or Horse Feathers, they incorporate full harmonies, diverse percussion, rich strings and thoughtful lyrics to craft poetic, vibrant storylines. They flow from smooth, easygoing tunes to quick-paced, edgier tracks while remaining fluid true to their distinct nature.

These guys have been busy tending to promo work since the release of their most recent full-length album, Humorous To Bees (Paper Garden Records), last month and have been all over the indie-music blogosphere. They have a handful of tour dates planned for this summer in the Southeast, and I’ve heard that their show is a pretty amazing one, so check them out if you get the chance.
