With the kind of electronic darkness that’s perfect for the changing seasons, it’s hard not to fall in love with the new EP from Must Be the Holy Ghost. It has the type of raging hooks that are expected from pop tracks, with layers and movement that’s reserved for the more experimental. The EP shifts moods track to track, going from the basement reverb of “Melt Down” to the more delicate “Forest” immediately after. While the changes could be jarring and sudden in the hands of some, Jared Draughon is able to keep a through line strong with his emotive vocals. Of the tracks Droughon says:
“Performing them a bunch live helped me fine tune how I should build and loop the layers of each song and how the lyrics and melodies should be delivered in the studio. It breathes more than previous releases and it’s a better indication of what Must Be The Holy Ghost has become and how it’s evolving.”
Overflow is available on 9/16 and is available for pre-order now. Check out the full EP above and be sure to check out the band when they play to Berlin on 9/19.
