A few weeks back, I went to Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn with a couple friends to see Seattle-based band The Cave Singers for the first time. As good as they were, it was supporting artist, Lia Ices, that really blew me away.
The Brooklyn-based, Connecticut-born musician was fascinating in both her stage presence and musical style. It was once I got home and bought her latest record that I realized just how amazing she is.
Her sophomore LP, Grown Unknown, is stunning. Nine surreal, dream-like pop songs that blend flawlessly into one very cohesive 40 minute experience. If there’s music in heaven, this is what it sounds like.
Ices is looking to have a breakout summer. She was recently featured on the cover of The Deli Magazine, recorded an iTunes Live Session at SXSW (download here), and is slated to play Lollapalooza after which she is heading to the UK. You can buy her album here, and watch some of her videos below.
