Last night’s show at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ kicked off the fall tour for bands LCD Soundsystem and opening band, Sleigh Bells. The combination of the two artists performing together was a perfect match: with a lot of bass, a lot of synth, and lots of lights.

Sleigh Bells was outstanding with their edgy synth-rock, balancing Murphy’s electronica-rock tunes perfectly. Alexis Krauss’ noise-rock vocals on “Kids” got the crowd going for the night while Derek Miller’s guitar riffs complemented quite well in “Tell ‘Em”. “Treats” provided the dancing crowd with head-thrashing hardcore rock. If you weren’t already a fan, it might have been hard to enjoy this live performance, however, I am a huge fan, and thought they did an awesome job rocking out.

LCD Soundsystem opened with “Dance Yrself Clean” which makred two firsts for LCD; it was the first time Murphy had ever played the song at a live show and the first time that he played a show in his home-state of New Jersey. The band played a total of 14 songs, spanning LCD Soundsystem’s entire catalogue. My personal favorite, “Yr City’s a Sucker”, had the entire crowd shouting back and forth with Murphy, singing every one of his lyrics.

“All My Friends” was absolutely epic. The entire crowd felt as one, as if there was agreed upon no talking rule while Murphy was playing his hit. “Tribulations” got the crowd revved up at its craziest. Everyone was singing along with Murphy, who was proving that this was one of his favorite songs.

LCD Soundsystem will be rocking out all over the states until October 23 when they embark on the European segment of the tour. LCD never disappoints in their performances and Sleigh Bells fit in well with the band as openers. Without a doubt, this was a great homecoming for Murphy and way to feel the noise in Montclair.
